Libations For All Occasions: Cheerful Cherry Negroni

Libations For All Occasions: Cheerful Cherry Negroni

If you happened to read A Savory Salute in our April issue of The Snack Magazine, you already know that I am a fan of strong cocktails. When one drink is all it takes for me to let loose, I figure I must be doing something right.

This June libation—the Cherry Negroni—leans toward the sweeter side of mixology, but packs a spirited punch nonetheless. Negronis in general make me want to kick back in a shadowed corner of the bar and watch the nightlife unfold before me. But, with the elevated and energizing kick of crushed cherries in my glass, I just might step out into the light and join the party.

The hot weather of Sacramento, California, and the like is sending city dwellers into the safe haven that is an air-conditioned restaurant or bar, so foodservice operators had better be ready to serve up a drink that is equal parts sultry and satiating. If I do say so myself, they may look no further than the Cherry Negroni.

Retailers, too, can take advantage of such a captivating beverage. Bright red cherries are ready for the taking, and will be doubly hard to pass up when merchandised alongside some Campari and gin. Though consumers will only need one glass, they will certainly be coming back for more. The Snack Endstop

Here's how to make it...

Ingredients

5 pitted cherries

1 oz Campari

1 oz gin (I recommend Hendricks)

1 oz Maraschino liqueur

Orange peel for garnish

Prep Time: 5 mins

Servings: 1

Directions

1. Add 4 of the fresh cherries and Maraschino liqueur to a cocktail shaker. Muddle together until it thickens into a syrup.

2. Pour the Campari and gin into the shaker, add a few ice cubes, and stir until the mixture is slightly diluted.

3. Pour into a double old fashioned glass and garnish with a cherry and orange peel. Enjoy!
