Edward (Ed) Johnson

Director of Sales - Central Region,

Taylor Farms Retail

Years at Taylor Farms: 11

In your own words, what is your role like?

“My main focus is to sell healthy, fresh foods to consumers and help shape the world through the way we eat. I achieve this through various strategies, including category management, sales planning, goal setting, and marketing. Working in produce is dynamic, rewarding, and full of challenges. It’s an industry deeply tied to the unpredictability of Mother Nature. Every day brings something new, and thriving in this fast-paced environment requires adaptability and passion. Ultimately, I hope the work we do in the produce industry can play a role in addressing America’s obesity crisis by making healthy food more accessible and appealing.”

How has sales become a life lesson?

“Working in sales has been incredibly informative, teaching me valuable life skills that extend far beyond the workplace. I’ve learned how to navigate challenges, build strong connections, and cultivate a deep sense of self-assurance. I truly believe that my experiences in sales have shaped me into the person I am today.”

What’s something about you that would surprise us?

“I really enjoy personal finance and retirement planning. From a young age, my father would teach me about the importance of ‘staying out of debt’ and ‘saving money for the future.’ Although he never made a lot of money in his career, he always managed to provide for our family. I am so proud of my father, and he is my hero. Whenever I’m given the opportunity, I always try to pay it forward and impact someone’s life through personal finance.”

Who has shaped you over the years?

Chris Dreier, Director of Sales, Taylor Farms: “I have learned a lot from Chris both professionally and personally. He has a great sense of awareness and pays attention to the details.”

Steve Koran, Vice President of Sales, Bengard Ranch: “Steve is a fantastic role model with a wealth of knowledge.”

Jeff Hutterer, Director of Sales, Ocean Mist® Farms: “Jeff is a great mentor and friend who always has good advice.”

What words of wisdom do you have for the next generation?

“Always be persistent and never satisfied. Remember: Your competition has salespeople, too.”
