Industry Spotlight: Apple and Pear Harvest

What do the boots on the ground have to say about this exciting seasonal window at Rainier Fruit Company? Explore how this is an incredible time of the year—every year!

Erica Bland-McConnell,

Ranch Manager

“Harvest is the time we look forward to all year. After pruning in the snow, thinning fruit by hand, and plenty of days waking up at 3 a.m., it’s always such a huge relief to see fruit in the bin heading to the warehouse. The whole family gets involved to help get the job done and we all celebrate with a big feast. It also means after a short break, we get to start all over again!”

Ralph Garcia,

Ranch Manager

“We get excited every year for the coming crop, as we see how uniform and attractive the crop will be. We do what we do out of passion, and love for the crops and the land itself. Mother Nature throws us curve balls year in and year out; that’s what makes this job satisfying and so much fun.”

Matt Haak,

Ranch Manager

“The great thing about working in the treefruit industry is that every year is different. The number of variables we need to consider when growing an excellent piece of fruit seems to be increasing at a rapid pace. There are many daily decisions every team makes, and most of those need to be correct. The grand finale is the harvest, and there is no better feeling than when you see the fruit in the bin. We take pride every day in producing the best quality fruits knowing the consumer is going to greatly enjoy them.”
